Located in the heart of Vieux Lyon since 1995, the Smoking Dog is an authentic and cosy English pub with real character. Eleven draught beers are available at all times, guaranteeing that all beer tastes are catered for. Jack and his team all speak both English and French fluently, providing a home from home for travelling Englishmen, but with a French flavour. Consistently popular with expats, locals, and students, the Dog provides the perfect atmosphere for visitors who miss their native soil, or are searching a suitable spot to watch the match.
Live sport
An excellent spot for football enthusiasts, numerous screens provide coverage of the Champions League, English Premiership, French Ligue 1 and international competitions. The biggest rugby clashes and world championship boxing can also be viewed in the Dog. Two matches can be shown at any given time.
Pub Quiz
On Tuesday nights the Smoking Dog hosts a traditional pub table quiz. Starting at 9pm, Quizmasters Ashley and Kieran take the microphone on alternate weeks to ask the questions in a bilingual format. The popular quiz is frequented by both locals and Lyon’s Anglophone community.
Book Shelves
Common in the UK but unique among the British pubs in Lyon, the Smoking Dog stocks a large collection of books on the shelves which cover its walls. Customers are invited to read whichever one they fancy while enjoying a quiet pint.
